The producer, the origin and the washing station
Producer and station
Koke Shalaye is a processing station in Koke Kebele, Yirgacheffe district, set up around 2019 and known for its microlots. It works with between 1,900 and over 3,000 smallholders depending on the season. This lot is washed; the station also makes experimental anaerobic lots.
The region
Yirgacheffe is the country’s second-largest coffee region, known for very floral, delicate, aromatically complex profiles. Ethiopia harvests from October to December and exports from February to July. It is the birthplace of coffee and most of it grows on small family plots, in the shade, in local heirloom varieties.
