The producer, the origin and the washing station
Producer and station
Sidamo coffee grows on mountain terraces between 1,500 and 2,200 m, on mineral-rich volcanic soils and under native shade trees. These are family plots where only ripe cherries are picked by hand, with cooperatives running central stations for consistency and traceability.
The region
Sidamo (also spelled Sidama) is Ethiopia’s largest producing region and works mostly with heirloom varieties. It combines traditional washing with controlled fermentation. Ethiopia harvests from October to December and exports from February to July. It is the birthplace of coffee and most of it grows on small family plots, in the shade, in local heirloom varieties.
